Miriam Kibakaya is a vocalist, composer and songwriter from Trondheim, Norway. She finished her bachelor degree in Trondheim at the conservatory for jazz at NTNU in 2022, and took a masters degree in jazz performance at the Norwegian Academy of music in Oslo in 2026. Now she works as a freelance musician/composer/songwriter based in Oslo, collaborating in several projects with other performers/artists from the nordic improvised scene.
As a performer she is often described as atmospheric with an artistic presence that is soulful and poetic.
Miriam has received talent prices from (Sparebank 1 SMN and Trøndelag Fylkeskommune), and has performed with her own and collaborative bands at Trondheim Calling, Vill Vill Vest, By:larm and Jazz:intro. The last three years she has been touring in Scandinavia and Germany with different ensembles at venues such as Molde Jazzfestival, Nonagon Festival (SE), Copenhagen Jazzfestival (DK), and Loch (DE).
In 2023 she released her first album “Roots” on the label “Jazzland Recordings”. The album explores introspective themes through compositions influenced by the music of saxophone-player Ben Wendel, Trondheim jazz orchestra, as well as the musical movements that have been developed from and has been passing through the jazz conservatory at NTNU Trondheim in recent times.
